Dr. Heidi Brezinski

About the principal:

Dr. Heidi Brezinski has joined our school family as our new principal. She is replacing Mrs. Ashley Ide who is joining the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment team as the HCS Social Studies Curriculum Leader.

Dr. Brezinski has nearly 20 years of experience in education, serving as the principal of John B. Cary Elementary School for the past eight years. Prior to her principalship at Cary, she served as the principal of Phillips, an assistant principal at Kraft Elementary and an assistant principal at Mary Peake Gifted Center. Dr. Brezinski is a product of Hampton City Schools and began her teaching career with Hampton in 2002 serving elementary students at Cary Elementary and Phillips Elementary.

She received a bachelor’s in psychology from George Mason University and her master’s in teaching from Christopher Newport University. She continued to further her education and earned her educational leadership administration degree from The George Washington University and her doctorate in educational leadership from Old Dominion University.

About the assistant principal:

In 1997, I began my career in Norfolk, Virginia at Richard Bowling Elementary School. My love for children and dedication to building the capacity of teachers through professional development has inspired me to serve in public education for over 20 years. I have served as a classroom teacher, instructional technology specialist, instructional specialist, and as a collaborator with district and site personnel in designing professional development to improve student outcomes and to support educators.

My educational credentials include a Doctorate of Education from Nova Southeastern University in Organizational Leadership, a Masters of Education degree from Regent University in Educational Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Norfolk State University in Interdisciplinary Studies and Early Childhood Education.

I am truly honored to serve as the assistant principal at Burbank Elementary School. I look forward to inspiring, engaging, and encouraging students to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom. I am certain this will be an awesome year of building positive relationships and exceeding expectations.
